Cali Coach ("Cali," "we," "our," or "us") is an AI-powered nutrition coaching app. We take your privacy seriously and collect only what's needed to provide the service.

Information We Collect

Account Information

Email address (for authentication)
Name or nickname you provide during onboarding

Health & Nutrition Data You Voluntarily Provide

Body metrics (age, height, weight, sex, activity level) — used to calculate personalized macro targets
Food log entries (meals, macros, portion sizes)
Weight log entries
Dietary preferences and restrictions
Wellness goals and coaching preferences

Apple HealthKit Data

If you choose to connect Apple Health, Cali can read weight data from HealthKit. This data is used solely to sync your weight history into the app. We never sell, share, or use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing purposes. HealthKit data is not stored on our servers beyond what is needed to display your weight trend in the app.

Conversation Data

Messages you send to Cali and Cali's responses are stored to maintain conversation history and improve coaching
AI-extracted coaching memories (insights from your conversations) are stored to personalize your experience

Food Photos

When you share food photos with Cali, images are sent directly to our AI provider (OpenAI) for analysis and then immediately discarded. Food photos are never stored on our servers. A local reference to the photo may be kept on your device for display purposes only.

How We Use Your Information

To provide personalized nutrition coaching and macro calculations
To track your food intake and weight progress
To generate coaching insights (Coach's Journal, Weekly Postcard)
To improve the coaching experience through AI-extracted memories
To send local push notification reminders (if you enable them)

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Supabase — database hosting and authentication (your data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure)
OpenAI — AI coaching responses and food photo analysis (conversation content is sent to OpenAI's API; see OpenAI's Privacy Policy)
Expo / EAS — app distribution and over-the-air updates (no personal data is shared with Expo)
USDA FoodData Central — food nutrition database (no personal data is shared)
Open Food Facts — food product database (no personal data is shared)
FatSecret — restaurant and chain food database (no personal data is shared)

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Supabase's cloud infrastructure with row-level security (RLS) enabled — meaning users can only access their own data. All data is transmitted over HTTPS.

Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us.

Children's Privacy

Cali Coach is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Rights

You can:

View all data Cali has about you within the app (memories, notes, food log, weight log)
Delete individual memories, notes, food log entries, or conversations within the app
Request complete account deletion by contacting us
Export your data via the app's export feature

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the date at the top of this page.
